The Impact of Language Frameworks on Assessment, Learning and Teaching, viewed from the perspectives of Policies, Procedures and Challenges
7-9 July 2011 in Kraków, Poland
The 4th International ALTE Conference is one of the largest multilingual events for the global language assessment community. ALTE Kraków 2011 provides an opportunity to hear influential voices, discuss key issues and meet colleagues from around the world. The three day event builds on the success of the 3rd ALTE Conference, held in 2008, by extending the debate into new and fascinating areas.
The conference will take place from Thursday 7 – Saturday 9 July 2011 in Kraków, Poland, hosted by the Jagiellonian University. The conference will coincide with the beginning of the Polish Presidency of the European Union.
Reflecting both the diversity and scope of the event, plenary speakers include some of the leading voices in the field of language assessment. Professor Lyle Bachman, Professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of California, Los Angeles, is well known to all in the language testing community having received numerous awards and honours from universities and professional organisations around the world. Also speaking will be Professor Elana Shohamy, Chair of the Language Education programme at the School of Education, Tel Aviv University, and highly regarded author, editor and researcher. Joined by leading academics and educators from across Europe, the plenary speakers will deliver key insights drawn from their personal research and experience. For the full list of speakers, please visit the Plenary Speakers page.

Who should attend?
Extend the conversation – contribute to the legacy
This, the fourth international ALTE conference, extends a conversation focused on the many aspects of language assessment research and practice – as previous conference programmes demonstrate. But ALTE does more than provide an opportunity to meet, listen and discuss. All conference speakers are invited to submit edited versions of their papers for possible inclusion in a special volume of Studies in Language Testing (SiLT), edited by Dr Michael Milanovic and Prof Cyril J Weir, and published jointly by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations and Cambridge University Press. Highly regarded throughout the language assessment community, SiLT has become an indispensable resource for test users, developers and researchers. ALTE conference editions are particularly valuable, as they provide a flavour of key issues which establish the path for future debate – view examples of previous editions of SiLT below.
