Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is ALTE?
ALTE is an association of institutions, which produce language
examinations. There are currently 26 European languages represented
by the member institutions. The representatives who take part
in the association's activities do so on behalf of their institutions
- the staff and the other stakeholders.
The 31 institutional members (2005) work with millions of other
stakeholders in Europe and world-wide.
These stakeholders include:
- the staff and colleagues working on the exams
themselves - i.e. working on test design and development, test
administration, test marking and grading and test analysis and
evaluation;
- professional consultants working on producing
and administering the exams, such as item writers and examiners;
- teachers and other educationalists, including
course writers and materials producers;
- government bodies;
- the test takers and their sponsors (parents,
employers);
- users of test results such as employers and
university departments, etc.
