The purpose of the test is to assess whether the learner has mastery in the use of language to allow him/her to meet the basic needs of communication in Catalan. It corresponds to level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe.
There are four components:
Candidates are expected to understand the issue, the main points of short, simple factual texts and to identify information in order to perform simple tasks. Texts can be public notices, advertisements, short news articles, enquiries, leaflets, show programmes, etc.
There are four questions with twenty items of the following task types: multiple-choice (3 options), true/false and matching.
Candidates must be able to understand the overall meaning and extract essential information from short, simple oral texts such as advertisements, notices issued by public address, news, short talks on familiar topics. The texts are authentic and adapted texts written especially simulating authenticity.
There are five questions with twenty items of the following task types: multiple choice (3 and 4 options), true/false and short answers.
Candidates must participate in a basic conversation and respond to simple everyday situations (eg.: request information, introduce someone, describe something ...).
The candidates are evaluated individually by two examiners (speaker and consultant). In the first part, must hold a conversation in which he made short explanations, simple descriptions and express their opinion on very simple issues close to their experience.
In the second part, must be able to react in a way quite understandable and appropriate to four common and basic everyday situations.
Candidates are expected to identify the appropriate response to everyday utterances or situations.
There are fifteen recorded utterances or communication situations. For each of these there is a written multiple-choice item. Candidates must choose the appropriate response.
The Speaking component carries 30% of the total marks, Listening 30%, Reading 25% and Communicative Awareness 15%.
There are two grades: Pass and Fail.
Candidates are considered to have passed if they obtain at least 60% in the speaking component and 60% in the rest of the examination.
Certificates are awarded to all successful candidates.
