The University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL)
has charitable status as an institution of the University of Cambridge.
The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Division is
responsible for supervising the production of examinations and
for their continual development to meet the changing needs of
candidates. There is close collaboration with the British Council,
which includes the administration of examinations abroad.
Cambridge ESOL offers five main ESOL examinations covering a
range of abilities.
The examinations presented in this document are (in order of
increasing difficulty):
These examinations can be taken at centres in the UK and abroad.
KET and PET have six fixed administrations a year while the other
examinations are taken in June and December.
Registration of candidates is the responsibility of Local Secretaries
appointed by Cambridge ESOL, who ensure correct completion of
entries and send them back to Cambridge. Candidates must register
six weeks before the KET and PET examinations and eight to ten
weeks before the FCE, CAE and CPE examinations. In addition to
the examinations listed here, Cambridge ESOL provides a wide range
of English language examinations for specific purposes, including
tests for children, tests of English for academic purposes and
of business English.
Results are issued to centres approximately eight to ten weeks
after the examination.
