Riiklik Eksami- ja Kvalifikatsioonikeskus

General information
The National Examination and Qualification Centre was founded
in 1996. According to the National Language Act, passed in February
1999, there are three levels of language competence: elementary
(algtase), intermediate (kesktase) and advanced (kõrgtase).
The state language certificate is required from persons who have
graduated from non-Estonian high schools and who wish to work
in Estonia or gain Estonian citizenship.
The National Examination and Qualification Centre (NEQC) has
organised Estonian language examinations since 01.07.1999.
Algtaseme, kesktaseme and kõrgtaseme examinations are
held ten times a year. In order to register for the examination
one has to submit a written application. Examination is free.
The registration deadline is one month before the examination.
Usually there are approx 1300 examinees per month. The applicant
is provided with a six-hour free consultation beforehand. Examinations
are held in all exam locations (in eight different major cities
of Estonia) at the same time.
