Centro de Avaliação de Português Língua Estrangeira – CAPLE

The University of Lisbon, currently through the Department of Portuguese Language and Culture (DLCP) of the Faculty of Arts, organizes courses of Portuguese Language and Culture for speakers of other languages.

CAPLE - In 1998 the Centro de Avaliação de Português Língua Estrangeira was established. It covers the following areas: production, delivery and evaluation of the exams; assistance to candidates and to examiners who are involved in all stages of the process of examination production; research in evaluation; training of human resources in evaluation.

In 1990, the University of Lisbon, in collaboration with other institutions, was instrumental in establishing ALTE – the Association of Language Testers in Europe, and has been a member of it since then. The CAPLE represents the University of Lisbon in ALTE.

The evaluation and certification system of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE) is recognised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Camões Institute, by the Ministry of Education and by the University of Lisbon through a protocol signed in 1999.

CIPLE - Certificado Inicial de Português Língua Estrangeira
DEPLE - Diploma Elementar de Português Língua Estrangeira
DIPLE - Diploma Intermédio de Português Língua Estrangeira
DAPLE - Diploma Avançado de Português Língua Estrangeira
DUPLE - Diploma Universitário de Português Língua Estrangeira

Other tests and examinations are currently being developed.
