Diploma Elementar De Português Língua Estrangeira
(DEPLE)

The DEPLE corresponds to level B1 of the Common European Framework of the Council of  Europe.

The level B1 Reference Level descriptionpresents social contexts of communication, communicative situations, types of written and oral texts, communicative strategies, speech acts, topics and both specific and general concepts expected to be necessary for the use of the language in the communicative activities described below.

The grammatical and lexical structures expected to be used at this level are the ones which are necessary for successful production and comprehension of written and oral texts described below.

Language users are expected to deal with a number of situations in everyday life, in the workplace and while studying which require mostly predictable use of the language. 
This examination consists of four components: Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking.

READING

Understanding the gist of texts like adverts, newspapers/magazine articles and news, brochures, instructions
For the use of medicines and other products, letters, reports, etc.,

Detailed understanding of a newspaper/magazine article.

Duration: 30 mins
Weight: This component accounts for 25% of the total marks. Both parts are weighted equally.

WRITING

Format of the component:

Part I: Writing a letter (personal or formal) or a text that is supposed to describe events, situations, express opinions or ask for/give information.
Part II: Production of a message/ postcard
Duration:1 hr
Weight: This component accounts for 25% of the total marks.

LISTENING

Format of the component:

Listening to dialogues.
Listening to factual radio texts (news, weather forecasts, cultural information, etc.) or other kinds of texts that ask for/give instructions, information or evaluate tasks.
The following task types are used: multiple choice, true/false, matching.
Duration:40 mins
Weight: This component accounts for 25% of the total marks.

SPEAKING

Format of the component:

If possible, this component is examined with two candidates at the same time.
Part I: Interaction with an examiner during which candidates are able to answer questions about themselves.
Part II: Role playing focused on transactional subject matters.
Part III: Interaction with an examiner on the basis of a stimulus given before the interview.
Duration: 20 minutes with every pair of candidates.
Weight: This component accounts for 25% of the total marks. All three parts are weighted equally.

FINAL GRADING

The grade of Muito Bom (Very Good) is awarded to candidates who achieved 85 to 100%.
The grade of Bom (Good) is awarded to candidates who achieved 70 to 84%.
The grade of Suficiente (Pass) is awarded to candidates who achieved 55 to 69%.
