Moscow State University Center for International Education.

Over 45 years ago Moscow State University (MGU) established a
special Preparatory Faculty with the goal of preparing foreign
students for entrance into the various faculties of MGU. Over
the years the range of courses offered by the Preparatory Faculty
has expanded and the name changed to the Center for International
Education.
During the past 45 years the Center has accumulated a wealth
of experience in the teaching of Russian language to foreigners.
This experience is reflected in the textbooks and course materials
utilised in the classroom. Most of these materials were prepared
by specialists from within the Center itself.
Nowadays the Center incorporates the following departments and
laboratories:
- Department of Russian Language (Initial Level)
- Department of Russian Language (Advanced Level)
- Department of Science
- Department of Humanities
- Laboratory of Information Technologies in Education
- Laboratory of New Teaching Methods
- Laboratory of Technical Aids
- Test Centre
The following educational programmes are offered:
- Pre-University Programmes (preparation for university
studies)
- Russian as a Foreign Language Programmes
- Training Courses for Teachers of Russian
as a Foreign Language
Russian as a Foreign Language Certificate Examinations.
Certificate examinations are often appropriate for those who require
evidence of their fluency in Russian to help them in their careers.
Our Test Centre offers:
- pre-test examination;
- test for a Certificate in Russian as a Foreign
Language Proficiency and for Certificate in Russian for Academic
Purposes;
- test preparation;
- computer practice for taking test;
- studies for teachers in test system and methods
in evaluation of students' skills.
Certificate examinations prepared for at the Center for International
Education are:
Elementary test. Successful performance in the Elementary
test represents a standard of initial competence in Russian which
enables a candidate to satisfy his elementary communicative needs
in a limited number of everyday situations.
Preliminary test. Successful performance in the Preliminary
test represents a standard of competence in Russian which enables
a candidate to satisfy basic communicative needs in a limited
number of situations in everyday and cultural spheres.
First Level Certificate. Successful performance in the
First Level Certificate indicates an intermediate level of competence
which enables a candidate to satisfy his main communicative needs
in everyday, cultural, educational and professional spheres in
line with the State Standard of Competence in Russian as a Foreign
Language.
Second Level Certificate. Successful performance in the
Second Level Certificate indicates an high level of competence
of Russian which enables a candidate to satisfy his communicative
needs in a wide range of situations of cultural, educational and
professional spheres.
Third Level Certificate. Successful performance in Russian
communicative spheres, to do scientific research in Russian and
to teach Russian as a Foreign Language at an Elementary level.
Fourth Level Certificate. Successful performance in the
Fourth Level Certificate indicates proficiency in Russian and
candidate's competence.
Examinations are set at the Test Center established by the Center
for University.
All students attending the educational programmes at the Center
for International Education have an opportunity to take these
examinations. It is possible for the students to apply for additional
lessons to help them with exam preparation. Other candidates should
apply for a special preparation course.
