Joining ALTE


Organisations are able to join ALTE as a Member or Institutional Affiliate as per the criteria below; individuals can join ALTE as Individual Affiliates.

ALTE currently offers two categories of membership:

Full membership

This is open to any organisation based within the European Union or European Economic Area (EEA), one of whose principal activities is to produce examinations of the official language or languages spoken in their country or region. The annual membership subscription is €2,000.

Associate membership

This is open to any organisation, one of whose principal activities is to produce examinations of the official language or languages spoken in their country or region, but which is based outside the European Union or EEA. Associate members have the same rights and obligations as full members, but do not have voting rights. The annual associate membership subscription is €1,000.

Joining ALTE as an Institutional or Individual Affiliate

Benefits of Institutional Affiliate status with ALTE:

  • Institutional profile on the ALTE website
  • Access to the ALTE electronic discussion forum
  • Regular communications from ALTE
  • Invitation to attend ALTE meetings, conferences and other events organised for Members and Affiliates only
  • Reduced delegate rates at specified ALTE events and training seminars
  • The opportunity to participate in ALTE Special Interest Groups
  • The opportunity to build international links through the ALTE network.

NB Affiliates are not Members of ALTE and may not represent themselves as such, nor use the ALTE logo. The annual institutional affiliate subscritpion is €400.

Benefits of Individual Affiliate status with ALTE:

  • Access to the ALTE electronic discussion forum
  • Regular communications from ALTE
  • Invitation to attend ALTE conferences and other events organised for ALTE Members and Affiliates
  • Reduced delegate rates at specified ALTE events and training seminars
  • The opportunity to build international links through the ALTE network.
  • Individual affiliation is free of charge

To become an ALTE Member or Affiliate

If your organisation is interested in joining ALTE as a full or associate member, you will be asked to provide information on aspects of the organisation's examinations, such as the levels provided, candidate numbers, how the examinations are set and administered, statistical analyses, and any new examinations planned, before membership can be approved. Your organisation will also be required to undergo an audit of one or more of its examinations.

Organisations wishing to become ALTE members are required to first join as Institutional Affiliates in order to meet the members and learn more about the organisation and its procedures.
