German - ÖSD (Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch)

ÖSD (Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch) was founded in 1994 on the initiative of responsible governmental departments in Austria. It is an internationally recognised examination and assessment system for German as a Foreign Language / German as a Second Language. At present, ÖSD-exams are held in more than 400 ÖSD examination centres all over the world.
ÖSD-exams are offered at levels A1–C2 in accordance with the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages” (CEFR). ÖSD sees itself as a communicative-oriented examination system which aims to assess foreign language competence in real-life situations.
Due to the pluricentric constitution of German ÖSD takes account of the standard varieties of German as spoken in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. This means that the receptive tasks in particular (reading and listening skills) are based on texts from all three German-speaking countries.
