Lingua Project 2002

DevProTHELL: Development Programme for Testing in Hungarian, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian

Description

The project aimed to extend four already existing Lingua products in the field of competence of test development to Estonian, Hungarian, Latvian and Lithuanian. The materials produced, based on the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference, comprised:

1) A Glossary of Testing Terms;
2) Can Do Statements;
3) Guidelines for Test Item Writers;
4) Checklists for Test Evaluation.
5) Breakthrough Level was also developed and extended into Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian; tailoring to the specific needs of learners in those countries.

The outcomes and final products can be described as support systems for teaching, testing and certification of Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian and Hungarian in the European Union. The approach adopted was to translate and adapt existing materials to the unique needs of the languages of the countries concerned, and involved the modification by testing experts in those languages of existing materials and the creation of supplementary materials as necessary.
