telc GmbH

telc GmbH, until December 2006 "WBT Weiterbildungs-Testsysteme GmbH" (Further Education Test Systems), is a not-for-profit institution organised in the form of a limited company under German charity law. The sole associate of telc GmbH is the Deutsche Volkshochschul-Verband e.V. (DVV). The DVV is the central organisation of 16 regional adult education associations catering for more than 1,000 adult education centres (Volkshochschulen) in Germany. In the mid-sixties the DVV set up a language examinations system to improve the quality of language teaching at Volkshochschule centres. Following the establishment of an examination system, the DVV set up an Examinations Office in Frankfurt where the examinations are centrally developed, evaluated and administered and where examination certificates are issued. Since 1998 DVV's Examinations Office has been organised in the form of a limited company.

Among the language examinations offered by telc there are 'Start Deutsch 1' and 'Start Deutsch 2', developed in close co-operation with the Goethe-Institut, and the 'Zertifikat Deutsch', which was jointly developed by telc, the Goethe-Institut, the Austrian German Diploma (ÖSD) and the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Directors (EDK). telc offers a B2 and a C1 German examination as well: 'telc Deutsch B2' and ‘telc Deutsch C1’. In the area of Work Oriented Language Examinations (WOLE) telc organises the 'Zertifikat Deutsch für den Beruf' (ZDfB), which was developed in co-operation with the Goethe-Institut as well, and 'Test Deutsch', a test of German as a foreign language at level A2+ developed for assessing German language competence for citizenship application purposes.

The examinations presented here are:

telc Deutsch B2 (D B2)

All telc examinations can be taken at all Volkshochschule centres and at telc-licensed institutions in Germany and at all language centres across Europe who have obtained a license to run 'The European Language Certificates' (hence the name 'telc').
