SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS

ALTE has various groups for members and affiliates with interest in specific areas of language testing. They work on a specific task, produce document for publication, and carry out research. Some meet regularly at ALTE events, and others meet on an ad hoc basis to discuss and learn more about a particular aspect of language assessment. Any member or affiliate with a shared interest in the area is welcome to attend.

SIGS have a Chair, who coordinates the work of the group.  Our current groups are:

QMS

The QMS working group has been commissioned by ALTE Members to review and edit all audit documentation. The Quality Management Systems group works in close collaboration with the Standing Committee, and its agenda is usually set by this committee.

LAMI

The Language Assessment for Migration and Integration SIG is currently working on the Toolkit, a Council of Europe initiative to support volunteer teachers of migrants, and literacy descriptors for use with migrants.

CEFR

The CEFR/Manual SIG has developed two different grids for the analysis of sample performances and tasks, and is currently researching the use of the CEFR in the employment sector.

YAL

The group meets on an ad hoc basis at ALTE events, as topics are requested for discussion or presentations are available. Any member or affiliate with a shared interest in the area is welcome to attend.

LSP

The Language for Specific Purposes SIG is currently involved in developing an LSP Supplement to the Manual for Language Test Development and Examining. A new project is underway to illustrate the Supplement with the process of development of an actual LSP test.

Technology

The group meets on an ad hoc basis at ALTE events, as topics are requested for discussion or presentations are available. Any member or affiliate with a shared interest in the area is welcome to attend.

Teacher Training

The group meets once a year at the ALTE winter conferences. Any member or affiliate with an interest in the area is welcome to attend. The last two meetings have been held jointly with the LAMI SIG, looking at teachers' needs in the context of migration and integration.

SRC

The Special Requirements and Circumstances SIG is gathering information on how and to what extent accomodations for candidates with special requirements can be granted in order to ensure fairness and barrier-free access to tests.
